Kruno Jošt holds an MFA in new media arts at Transart Institute, awarded by Donau-Universitat Krems. Trough involvement in the wide range of artistic practices that span from personal to collaborative and participative works using transdisciplinary strategies, he is researching relationships between art, culture, new/old technologies, humanities and consciousness in collaborative and collective environments. He works in all applicable media to create a social sculpture, where emphasis is on non-conventional when embracing and initiating creative group efforts. His work is developed trough the networks of collaborators connected to open software and open hardware, free culture, open source and creative commons.
Jošt practice in last 10 years develops through GenteJunk collective where he collaborates in many ongoing projects: an improvised, open, music and visual sessions in Impromondays (Croatia), Live Noise Tupi (Brasil) and Noise Wall (Croatia). He was one of the founders and editors of magazine for culture “04 - MegaZine for Reality Hacking”, one of the founders of Internet radio network “Free Radio: Station MIR” (FRSM), and is running GentleJunk NetLabel for non-conventional music and experimental sound art collaborations.
He also initiated ongoing research on exchange in free and open culture between Brazil and Croatia. When assisting on New Media Cross-Border project in Autonomous Centre, focusing on cross border exchange in transdisciplinary strategies and new media art between Croatia and Slovenia he was leading a group of 12 artists, activists and cultural workers trough series of workshops, events, exhibitions, conferences, study visits and performances. Collaboration with Transtechnology Research department of Plymouth University was initiated during this visits, leading active involvement and collaborations at conferences and workshop of International Network for Transdisciplinary Research.
Jošt is founders of organization Urban Culture and Education which is focusing on international collaboration, cultural exchange and networking in creative art practices and new media art. He organizes international art meetings, residencies and festivals: Experimental Electronic Interventions (EEII) since 2004 and Multimedia camp (MMKamp) since 2006. At the moment at UKE Jošt is running two programs: “Platform for Transdisciplinary Practices” and “Production, Education and Research in New Media Culture” which are supported by Ministry of Culture Croatia since 2004.
Jošt has been involved with researching culture and art resulting in a transdisciplinary project Art Operating Systems, where interrelation between art systems and actors are investigated. AOS initiates an art lab inside cultural activity reflecting on its system. Presently he investigates a mobile laboratory settings for collaborative social experiments. Mobile Art Lab and Mobile Art Dome both research collaborative creativity and novelty within communities ability to resolve defined problems, nurturing ideas of environmentalism and collaborative creativity, utilizing findings from AOS.
Jošt received Croatian Ministry of Culture award for best collaborative electronic audio work in 2007 and first prize for best locative collaborative work at Arte.mov festival in Belo Horizonte in Brazil 2009. Recent exhibits include Concent Art gallery in Berlin, NANO gallery in Zagreb and festivals such as Futuresonic Fringe in Manchester, Liwoli in Linz, Arte.mov festival in Brazil, HAIP Ljubljana, Pure Data Convention in Sao Paulo, KIBLIX festival in Maribor and Pixelache in Helsinki.
